Let’s get started!

Make Your Own Crown

Equipment

Macramé, unlike crochet or knitting, does not require any “needles”. You only need your hands to tie knots.

I use a traditionally styled Macramé cotton cord in this pattern known as 3.5mm single-ply- this is available in my shop here. Because it is a single-ply cord it creates smooth tassel effect fringe when unraveled.

Supplies

  • 3.5 mm single-ply Cotton Cord (Click to Buy at my store)

  • Scissors Link to my scissors on amazon:

  • large cardboard box

  • sellotape

Method- Video Tutorial

The easiest way to learn how to do this is to watch this full-length free tutorial video :

This video shows me making just 2 basic knots!

A larks head knot to secure the lengths of the cardboard hat ring.

  • Square knots / alternating square knots to form a pattern

  • A diagonal double half hitches to make diagonal lines to describe the crown shape

You can learn these beginners knots here on my dedicated knot pages (click image)

Measure and cut first!

  • Each 8 cord section requires : 8x 90cm lengths

  • There are 7 crown sections in total (8x7= 56 lengths of cord measured and cut at 90cm each)

  • 56 cords cut at 90cm In length are required in total

  • This makes a hat with a rim approx 56 cm in length
